VA Engage Journal

Read the most recent volume of the VA Engage Journal.

Submission window for Volume 8: May 1 – August 5th, 2019.

The Mission of the VA Engage Journal is to build our collective practical and intellectual capacities for meaningful community engagement by providing a forum in which students enrolled in colleges and universities across Virginia can share and reflect critically on their own community-engaged experiences, and can disseminate knowledge emerging from their engaged practice and research.

The VA Engage Journal was created in 2011 and hosted at the 140508_028_lrUniversity of Virginia under the leadership and vision of Megan Raymond, University of Virginia; Drew Stelljes, The College of William and Mary; and Roberta Rosenberg, Christopher Newport University, in order to provide a forum for undergraduate students to publish community-engaged scholarship. After a hiatus in 2013, Sylvia Gale, the Director of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement at the University of Richmond became editor, and relaunched the journal on the Digital Commons platform with a new look and broader audience. With the work of a planning team consisting of faculty and staff across the Commonwealth, the journal has expanded to include the work of graduate and professional students, has reframed its areas of emphasis and now invites multimedia submissions. In July 2018, Steve Grande from James Madison University became editor.

Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full or part time at a two or four year college or university in Virginia in the academic year preceding the submission deadline may submit an original article to be considered for publication in the VA Engage Journal provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owner of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).
